You Should Become Involved in IEEE!The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers is the world’s largest professional technical society devoted to the advancement of technology. In other words, it’s the professional society for electrical and computer engineers. The ISU Chapter of IEEE is devoted to serving the students of the Electrical and Computer Engineering department. Our goals are met by hosting company information sessions, co-sponsoring curriculum forums, increasing interest in engineering through community involvement, and developing The Relay. We supplement our primary work with pizza sales, T-shirt sales, membership drives, and organizational improvements. As a member of the ISU chapter of IEEE you’ll have the resources to stay up-to-date on current events within the department and IEEE. If you desire to become more involved, consider becoming an active branch member! Active branch members are not only more involved in the organization, but you can put leadership experience on your résumé and take advantage of executive positions available. A NI campus recruiter says “Don’t list organizations you’ve joined on your résumé. Put only the ones you’re involved in.” Leadership opportunities include:
To become a member of the ISU IEEE chapter email ieeemembership@iastate.edu. If you wish to be an active branch member, simply attend the chapter meetings. As a member of the IEEE Inc. world-wide organization you will have the resources to stay up-to-date with new developments in technology. As an IEEE Inc. student member you can stay ahead of the game by taking advantage of the technical resources that exist, including:
In addition to the technical resources available you’ll receive a membership card, discover further scholarship opportunities, and be able to include IEEE on your résumé. To become a member of the IEEE world-wide organization go to www.ieee.org/join. So what is the fine print? Membership in the ISU IEEE chapter does not have any. There is no fee to join; in doing so you will have a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips and numerous opportunities for involvement. Joining IEEE Inc. as a student member entails a small fee; membership is $30 per year or $15 per half year. However, it will open the door to vast technical resources, and allow you to share membership in an organization with thousands of the world’s brightest minds. Become involved in IEEE! |
